Designed for aerospace engineering students, government employees responsible for certifying military and civilian aircraft, and individuals involved in aircraft accident investigation and consulting, An Introduction to Aircraft Performance provides a comprehensive and useful approach to aircraft performance issues. In addition to covering the broad area of performance, this book also examines specialized subjects such as the Ground Proximity Warning System and ice formation on aircraft on the ground or in flight. Asselin's veteran analysis and clear explanation of aircraft performance issues have already found their way into many university classrooms, including those of the Royal Military College of Canada. The practical applications discussed in this book will prove essential to working engineers and other individuals.

Aircraft design process

The aircraft design process is a loosely defined method used to balance many competing and demanding requirements to produce an aircraft that is strong, lightweight, economical and can carry an adequate payload while being sufficiently reliable to safely fly for the design life of the aircraft. Similar to, but more exacting than, the usual engineering design process , the technique is highly iterative, involving high level configuration tradeoffs, a mixture of analysis and testing and the detailed examination of the adequacy of every part of the structure. For some types of aircraft, the design process is regulated by national airworthiness authorities. This article deals with powered aircraft such as airplanes and helicopter designs. The design process starts with the aircraft's intended purpose.

This book is not a handbook for airplane design. It is intended to be used in courses in airplane performance as a main text, and in courses in airplane design as.

That he might be the drag on this group was discouraging. In any case Swan was overseeing the filling of backpacks she had found in the emergency supply cabinets: their spacesuit helmets, some emergency air, water bottles, food, air mattresses, a little pot and stove. Possibly similar to spelunking expeditions of long duration. Little headlamps were included in the packs too, although for now they were not necessary, as the ceiling held a warm square of yellow-white light every twenty meters or so, illuminating the rough rock of the utilidor very well.

Written by one of the most successful aerospace authors, this new book develops aircraft performance techniques from first principles and applies then to real.
